also tell me he has a rather lecty criminal history. reporting live in santa rosa. >> a sad ending for one marin county family. on christmas eve police pulled over anthony donaldson on suspected drunk driving. they say he took off on foot and jumped into a rain swollen creek near the college of marin. rescue teams and his family spent days searching for him, but it wasn't until yesterday his body turned up in that creek. >> investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in oakland. it broke out about 9:00 this morning at a house on the 200 block of east 26th street. news chopper 2 flew over as flames and smoke were coming from the roof. firefighters say the home was unoccupied and there were no injuries. the fire had to be fought from outside because firefighter history difficulty reaching the flames because to the amount of personal items stored inside the house. no word yet on an estimate of damage. >>> the cold spell in the bay area is finally coming to an end. we'll hear from our chief meteorologist in a moment. first though, tom vacar is at a flower farm

60s. the high temperatures will be in the 50s. 56 at oakland, 57 in santa rosa. overnight lows tonight or when you get going tomorrow morning, wednesday morning not as cold as they have been. the rain gets here but it doesn't get here in the morning. looks like it's going to be more till after lunchtime kind of thing. accumulation, this is the model. it says it's going to be about .13 in napa. .08 in oakland. i wanted to point out the fact that these aren't one or two inch accumulation they're .07 or .08. i just don't see a lot of rain from this but it will create issues as you get into that afternoon commute. the computer model does this. here we are at midnight. the clouds moving in. here's the system. look how spread out it is. you see a little yellow here. there's stronger dynamics. your morning commute is dry. some showers start to show up around yucaia. now you start to see showers perhaps as far south as gernville and santa rosa. showers start in the north bay and then you see the bulk of this system starting to move in about 3:00. that's when we expect showers from 3:00

, north bay, 6. 65 today in santa rosa. 63 in san francisco. 73, santa cruz this afternoon. interior east bay, temperatures held down a little bit thanks to an east win that brought a little of the central valley fog. 50 in livermore. antioch as well as concord. here's a look at our current readings, starting to drop down a bit. antioch, 58. 60 in san francisco. 57 in novato. 49 in san jose. here's a look out our forecast. we'll continue with cold conditions overnight, also patchy valley fog. the high surf advisory still in place for your sunday, and then it looks lick a distributing of more mild days -- a string of more mild days monday and tuesday. let's touch on the high surf advisory. it's in place until 4:00 tomorrow, strong rip currents, large breaking waves and you can see he current wave heights. they will begin to build overnight and definitely tomorrow morning. here is a look at the closeup satellite. clear sky today but those offshore winds helped to push the high clouds and any other cloudiness well off the coast. so clear sky overnight. going to be cold in the north bay.

of 60. oakland you're at 61. the warmest spot san francisco at 62. santa rosa 57 degrees. it will be chilly tonight. concord down to 33. santa rosa 31. napa 32. get used to that lows around freezing watch out for that black ice especially around 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning. radar clear once again. we are dry in santa rosa. look at the difference from year to year. you had a foot of rainfall in december. now as we start off 2013, one half of one inch of rain for january that's about it. there's a big reason for it. it is that big dome of high pressure sitting over the west coast shoving that storm track north of the canadian border. that's where they are going to see rain in british columbia. nowhere close to the bay area. so the storm track stays there. and the center of high pressure stays here. here being right over top of the bay area which means we'll level off in the low to mid-60s for highs. couple of degrees milder tomorrow compared to today and that's where we are going to stay through tuesday of next week. so watch out for the ice especially around sunrise in our inland vall

. santa rosa, 58. san jose, 59. 60s in oakland, 66 today. san jose also hit the mid-60s. as expected with all that sunshine, nothing on the radar. tonight for the first time in about a week, week and a half, i think everybody stays above freezing. that's you in fairfield, 34. santa rosa, 34. 42 for oakland. san francisco down to 44. redwood city, 41 degrees. we are still trending milder. two things i want to point out here. one, that deflect tore shield, big bubble of high pressure is still here. one of these systems will get here toward the middle of next week. we can see the end of this pattern. it's not going to happen this weekend. saturday, sunday, monday, all about that big bubble of high pressure moving over top of northern california. you stay sunny, dry, mild, all the way through tuesday when you head back to work and kids go back to school. changes coming toward the middle of next week. it's going to be a subtle change. not going to get pouring rainfall. slight chance of rain next friday. the bigger change will be an increase in clouds, as the onshore flow, westerly components i

won't be as chilly. santa rosa down to 40. san jose 43, and mountain view 44 degrees overnight tonight. you can see on the satellite radar review that clouds and moisture are moving in. you see it building to our south and west. the clouds are now here and with low pressure moving in from the north and west dragging a weak cold front through, showers return tomorrow. mostly we get it tomorrow afternoon. but showers for the first time in a long time will be here and a cooler and cloudier pattern will be here for a while, even after that front moves through. so here is your future cast. we'll see showers moving into the north bay early. most of you got the rain in the afternoon but scattered showers moving back in for the first time in a week and a half. highs tomorrow will not be as mild. hayward 58, palo alto 51, right around 59 for walnut creek, vallejo 58. pet lou ma tomorrow 56. daly city 57 degrees. the next seven days, scattered showers tomorrow, especially late. drying out thursday and friday. low 60s, partly sunny, cloudier on saturday and then another round of rainfall moves in

the upper 50s today. currently you're sitting at 52 right now. santa rosa 54. livermore 50. oakland warm at 59. concord currently 52 so we are on that climb upward towards 60 degrees. radar is clear, nothing on cbs 5 hi-def doppler. get used to that. it's going to be that way for a while. also get used to chilly nights. no more freeze warnings or frost advisories. but with clear skies, it's january, long nights, it will be chilly. fairfield at 30, 32 concord and livermore, 29 santa rosa, chilly in san francisco with a low of 43 degrees. but it's all due to a ridge of high pressure. it's not allowing any storm to get within let's say 800 or 900 miles of san francisco and the bay area. look at where the storm track is up toward juno, alaska and it's not coming anywhere close to us soon. so we are just going to monitor where that ridge of high pressure is going. right now it's just off to our west. it's attracting an east wind. it's strong, that offshore wind. as high pressure moves closer slowly the atmosphere will continue to warm up. we'll be dry and mild through the holiday weekend
